Elland Road Capacity

Right, I'm sat watching crap on telly and I started to wonder why when we have sell out games now / recently at ER (Arsenal, Bristol Rovers, Liverpool etc) the ground is full with only 38,000 or so tickets sold. 10 years ago in the Prem, we regularly had 40,000. I know the South Stand front row isn't sold, but 2000 or so seats seemed to have disappeared? We used to get 40k for scum, chelski etc, all high profile cat C games, so surely it's not segregation related.

Attendances have always been a mute point at Elland Road, back to the days of Manny Cussins ( ask yer dad about him if yer not old enough to know). Allus remember stood on kop in late 70's early 80's, swaying backwards and forwards, feet lifted off floor, packed to rafters, then the announcement came over...''todays attendance is 27,000...'' fucking hell, where did the other 10,000 n odd get to? Place were rammed!! salut

Aye, but in those days buzza old lad, everyone diddled their gates so the tax-man didnt knoweth. how many times you been away and know for a fact theres been more seats sold (wimbledon) than can actually hold folk ?
At ER at present, i think the 2000 are part (above) and part they are simply not sold, some folk want more than 1 seat and will not buy a restricted view.
Hope this helps  salut
If not, get fucked.

I remember those days well (fuck me I'm gonna be 40 this year), but it seems like a typical Bates wind up to announce tickets have sold out in a stadium with 40,000 seats and then say there's 38.100 in the ground. Suppose I've become a part timer in recent years due to moving down south with work commitments, working saturdays, having kids etc so I tend to choose the bigger games to go to.
Just one of those 2000 seats would be nice to have when you get told it's a sell out.

Glad im not the only sad cunt whos thought this as well. Below is a link to attendances from 2001, look at leeds, right at bottom are links to other years. highest attendances over 40K and nothings changed since.

Good post, raised a few smiles and eyebrows. Re a packed Elland Road or not, I miss the good old days as I bet most of us on ere do, but hey ho, we were there when it mattered. I have a few fotos from early 80's which I took in Whip Inn plus a few from Original Yates's but dunno how to upload em. Plus loads when we won league taken in Whip too  everyone bouncing up and down whilst floor nearley collapsed. Happy fucking days indeed....CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE...

Buzza to upload pics on here is a piece of piss. When you click to post a topic you will see at the bottom of the box you type in (attach file) click that, another box pops up and you can then browse any pics/files you have on your computer, click the one you want and then upload file at bottom and it does it all for you, if you wanna add another pic just do the same and it will put it on the post for you.
Look forward to seeing the pics mate salut
